A Step by Step Guide to Course Registration
Course registration at the University of Western Ontario is done over the internet through Student Center. The following instructions give you a brief step by step guide to registering for a course through this system, as well as links to more detailed instructions.
Before you can start:
- You must be term activated in the term you're choosing your course in.
- You must have an active UWO email account.
- We recommend you go through the academic calendar & timetable to find information on the courses & sections you are interested in, as well as some alternates in case of conflicts/full courses.
- Go to Western Calendar. Pick the courses you are interested in from the calendar.

- You must make sure you have any prerequisites or co-requisites needed, and make sure you do not have any anti-requisites.
- The Calendar course information contains course names, numbers, descriptions, and the necessary prerequisites/anti-requisites/co-requisites for the course.

- Go view the Timetables and choose the time table for the term you want to register in.

- Search the Timetables for the courses you picked from the calendar and determine if there are any scheduling conflicts.
Course Registration
Adding a Class
- Log in to Student Center. You will need your Western username & password. If you do not have this information, use our Student Center Access Guide.
- Under the Academic Section select 'Add a Class'.
- Search for the class you would like to add by clicking on the search button (see class search for further info) OR enter the class nbr if you know it and click enter.
- When the course you selected appears click next to put it in your shopping cart.
- Scroll down to click Proceed To Step 2 of 3 and then click Finish Enrolling to add the course.

Dropping a Class
- Log in to Student Center. You will need your Western username & password. If you do not have this information, use our Student Center Access Guide.
- Under the Academic Section select 'Drop a Class'.
- Select the class you wish to drop by clicking in the Select box.
- Click Drop Selected Classes.
- Click Finish Dropping.

Swapping a Class
- Log in to Student Center. You will need your Western username & password. If you do not have this information, use our Student Center Access Guide.
- Under the Academic Section select 'Swap Classes' from the 'Other Academic' drop down box and click the double arrows to continue.
- Select the class you wish to swap out by choosing from the list in the 'Select from your schedule' dropdown box.
- Choose a class to replace it using the course registration system. After making your choice, you will be presented with a page with the details on your swap.
- Review the details of your swap & once satisfied, click the finish swapping button. A page will come up with the information about your swap. The status heading will tell you if your classes were swapped successfully, or if there was an error.

Class Search
- When you are searching for a class enter the first 3 digits of the subject in the box and click select subject (eg. Psy for Psychology).
- When the options appear click the select button next to the choice you are looking for (eg. Psychol for Psychology).
- Select the class you wish to swap out by choosing from the list in the 'Select from your schedule' dropdown box.
- Enter the course number if you know it or just click the search button. Open courses will appear for you to choose from.
- Click the green arrow next to the course you would like to add and then select the section you want to add. From here go back to the Add instructions to continue.
