Fee Payment Methods from Student Loans
OSAP/Government Student Loans
Funding for Full-Time Students (60% or more of a full course load; 40% if you are a student with a permanent disability)
OSAP funding for FULL TIME students will be electronically transferred to your bank account provided the OSAP application is complete.
Visit the OSAP website to confirm your loan entitlement.
Tuition owing to Western will be taken from your funding only if you have agreed to this on your OSAP application; otherwise, you will be responsible for paying your fees.
If you have agreed that tuition owing to Western will be taken from your funding and your first installment of OSAP funding is not enough to cover your first installment of tuition, you must pay the difference by the due date on your Statement of Account.
If your OSAP funding has not been confirmed, you must pay your fees by the due date.
If you are unable to pay your fees by the fee payment due date, go to Student Central, Room 1120, Western Student Services Building or e-mail email@example.com to discuss deferment arrangements. Fee deferments are not granted for full fees. Special deferments are available to students on the basis of proven financial need.
Western must confirm that you are enrolled in the courses you have indicated in your Application before the Ministry can release your funding.
- If your OSAP funding is confirmed and only waiting for Western to confirm your enrollment, the amount of tuition covered by OSAP will be automatically deferred. You do not need to contact our office to request a deferral.
30% Off Ontario Tuition Grant Recipients - For students who are eligible
Ontario tuition grant funding will be issued to students in one of two ways. The funds will now either be directly deposited to your bank account or a cheque will be sent to your mailing address as it shows on your OSAP application. The funding status on the OSAP website will show if your grant funding has been issued and if so, how and when you should expect to receive it.
OSAP Funding for Part-Time Students (20 to 59% of a full course load; 20 to 39% for students with permanent disability)
OSAP for Part-Time loan applications received by Student Financial Aid at least 8 weeks prior to the start of the session will be available for pick up in Student Central, Room 1120, Western Student Services Building at the start of the first session in which you are registered. Please check your UWO email for pick up instructions.
Your tuition fees will be deducted from your loan. If your loan is not enough to cover your full tuition, the outstanding balance MUST be paid by the due date on your statement of account to avoid a late payment penalty. The amount of tuition covered by OSAP will be automatically deferred. You do not need to contact our office to request a deferral.
Your Canada Study Grant is always released in two installments as listed on the loan document. Western cannot assign tuition from the second installment; therefore, you may be short on funding that can go directly to tuition. You MUST PAY SHORTFALL by the normal due date.
If you cannot pay the shortfall by the normal tuition due date, you must arrange for a payment arrangement through Financial Aid.
You must pick up your OSAP for Part-Time Loan at the start of the session and take your loan document to a designated Canada Post Outlet right away to complete payment of your fees. A list of locations is available here, or find the one closest. Loans must be picked up promptly to avoid a late payment penalty.
If you are unable to come in and pick up your loan in person, you can complete a Letter of Direction/Mailing Authorization Form, fax or mail to our office with a copy of your Social Insurance Card and a valid Government issued Photo ID. We can only mail documents to addresses within CANADA.
Out Of Province Funding
If you are receiving government student loans from another province and wish to defer your tuition to your loan bring a copy of your Government Student Loan Notice of Assessment to Student Central, Room 1120, Western Student Services Building. Alternatively, you may submit a written request for a tuition deferral along with a copy of your Government Student Loan Notice of Assessment, by fax to 519-850-2394, or mail to: Western University, Student Financial Aid, Room 1100, Western Student Services Bldg, London, Ontario, N6A 3K7. Please include your name and student number on any documentation submitted. Your Notice must be received in our Office on or before your tuition due date in order to avoid a late fee charge.
