Thinking About Taking Summer Courses?

Thinking About Taking Summer Courses?

Summer is a great time to get ahead, lighten your course load, or re-take a class. Getting registered is easier than you might think. Just follow the steps below to get started!

STEP 1: Step 1: Build Your Schedule in Draft My Schedule

Start by using Draft My Schedule to plan your summer timetable. This tool helps you:

  • Create a conflict‑free schedule
  • Check whether your Distance Studies course has any in‑person requirements under the "Requisites and Constraints"

STEP 2: Term activate for Summer Term

Beginning February 18, 2026, log in to Student Center and go to: Academics > Course Registration > Summer Term Activation.

Newly admitted Western students: You don’t need to do this step! You’ll be automatically term activated and given an enrollment appointment once you’re admitted.

It may take up to 72 hours to be activated (activation only runs Monday through Friday).

STEP 3: Register for Your Courses

Once your summer term is activated:

  • Log in to Student Center
  • Go to Academics > Course Registration > Search and Add
  • Select Summer 2026
  • Search for your course

For instructions on course registration, refer to our Register in Summer Courses Guide for help.

Important Things to Know

  • In the Summer term, all students are considered part-time and are limited to 2.5 credits
  • No more than 2.0 courses can be taken simultaneously excluding Distance Studies if you take all 2.5 credits as Distance Studies courses
  • For a list of summer registration dates, please see the Summer 2026 Registration Dates sheet.
